Benefits

A. The best way to learn about our benefits is to ask an active competitor in our league.

B. We offer brackets that have the potential for 2x the matches. (See Bracket Types in FAQ)

C. We keep track of all the matches you compete in on your user profile. Your online profile also has some very nice features such as a submission/win tracker and tagged photos of you at our events. We also record and upload every match to each competitor's profile (Every Mat have a camera recording all matches).

D. No one does events like US! We make it very exciting. Once you feel it, you will know.

What is The Elite 8?

Before the event, each academy selects 8 competitors who they believe will earn the most points during the tournament. (Hint: Submissions and Wins are worth the most in this trophy category.) The best way to pick the Elite 8 is through the Academy Admin page. If you don’t have one, you can speak to us through chat and we will get you set up. Picks should be sent no later than the Wednesday before the tournament.

How do I Register?

1. Register by clicking the "register now" button.

2. If you have an account login and sign up.

2. If you don't have an account just register for the event and it will automatically make an account for you.

3. You are done. Just make sure to keep your weight class up to date.

Note: to allow as many competitors as possible to compete, we may add another day or move certain divisions to another day. In such case, we will provide as much notice as reasonably practical.

Veteran Status FAQ

This FAQ covers questions specific to Veteran status for the Houston Veterans Open. Everything else about the event (check-in, weigh-ins, schedule, divisions) is the same as any other JJWL event.

Is this a Veterans Only event?

No, this event is for everyone. The more people who sign up, the more it supports what we're doing by offering Veterans a free registration.

What counts as Veteran status?

Open to all current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces (active duty, National Guard, Reserve, and retirees), as long as the service was other than dishonorable. You'll verify this once through your JJWL profile by uploading proof of service — the form will show you exactly which documents are accepted based on whether you're currently serving or a veteran.

If I've never competed with JJWL and I'm a Veteran, how do I sign up?

Create a profile with JJWL by clicking here. Once your profile is set up, verify your Veteran status here. Once verified, make sure you're signed into your profile, then select the Veterans Open and sign up for your divisions — payment is set to $0.

Are there unique divisions or weight classes?

No, this event is structured just like every other JJWL event, except Veterans compete for free.

Who should I contact if it's been a while and my Veteran status is still pending?

Reach out to our online chat. Hours are Monday–Friday, 11 hours a day: 7am–6pm Pacific, 8am–7pm Mountain, 9am–8pm Central, 10am–9pm Eastern.

What if my verification gets returned (not approved)?

Please review the rejection notes, fix the errors, and resubmit a new verification request.

Can I register before I'm approved, or do I need to wait?

You need to wait until your veteran status is approved. If you don't wait, you might end up paying full price for the event.

Do I need to bring anything to check-in related to my veteran status?

No, all verification is done online before the event. Please attend as you would any other JJWL event.

Does verification carry over to future JJWL Veteran events?

The Veteran Status, once approved, is permanently fixed to your profile. You only need to verify once per profile.

When will the event sell out?

If capacity reaches 1,500 competitors, the event may sell out at any time after that point.

When is the last day to register for free as a Veteran?

Free Veteran registration ends on 11/14 — the same day as the free rashguard deadline.
